Donor Engagement Manager (12 month contract)

Status: Full-Time, 12 month contract (October start)

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Corporate and Community Partnerships, the position of Donor Engagement
Manager is responsible for managing and executing the Second Harvest Hero Fundraiser, and other group based
fundraising initiatives in the community. Central to the role is to identify, engage and steward current
and new corporate partners and their employees, as well as community groups and their networks, in their
support of Second Harvest’s work in the community. This position supervises the Donor Engagement
Coordinator.

Key Responsibilities:
Second Harvest Hero Fundraiser
• Develop and lead the strategic growth and direction of the Second Harvest Hero Fundraiser
• Manage the Second Harvest Hero Fundraiser, leading a team of internal stakeholders to achieve
campaign objectives
• Responsible for meeting financial and gift-in-kind targets, managing revenue and expense budgets
• Report on Campaign progress and results to all stakeholders
• Collaborate with Senior Manager, Corporate and Community Partnerships, to identify, engage and
steward new, current and lapsed financial and in-kind sponsors, developing strategies for growth and
expansion of activation opportunities
• Collaborate with Communications team to develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and
promotional campaign
• Identify, engage and steward new, current and lapsed campaigns in the corporate, small business,
school, retail and restaurant sectors, including prospect list development and cold calls
• Participate in Hero-related speaking and presentation opportunities to enhance recruitment and
fundraising maximization efforts
• Develop, lead and execute promotional/engagement events and public-facing fundraising activities,
with support from Special Events staff
• Develop, manage and execute the Hero raffle, securing prizing (gifts-in-kind) and supervise the raffle
administration
• Develop and implement a comprehensive incentive program to encourage companies to sign up and
increase their fundraising year over year, including securing incentive prizes
• Liaise with vendors and city authorities in order to secure permits, insurance and coordinate logistics
• Work with Volunteer Program Manager to support the recruitment, scheduling and management of
300+ volunteers
• Work with the Administration team to ensure the efficient and timely processing of incoming
donations from the Hero campaign
• Develop and implement a stewardship plan to acknowledge and celebrate Hero campaigns and their
donors, with support from the Donor Relations Officer
• Other duties as assigned
Other fundraising events and campaigns
• Develop and lead the strategic growth and direction of the third-party events portfolio
• Identify, engage and steward current, lapsed and new third-party event partners
• Support event coordination and production of third-party events as needed
• Participate in Second Harvest speaking opportunities as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Philanthropy
• Execute corporate philanthropy strategies as required in support of overall philanthropy team,
including prospect research, donor recruitment, proposal and application writing
Management
• Manage one direct report, including supervision of performance, establishing priorities and evaluating
results

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Degree or certificate in fundraising, or its equivalent in specialized training and direct experience in P2P
fundraising preferred
• 3 years of experience in fundraising with a track record in meeting or exceeding revenue targets
• Experience in soliciting new partnerships with particular success with cold calling
• Proven record in acting as key contact for donor relationships
• Experience managing senior relationships and volunteers at all levels
• Fluency with MS Office suite, fundraising databases and e-commerce systems

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends
• Access to a vehicle and a valid Class G driver’s license

About Second Harvest:

Second Harvest is the largest food rescue program in Canada. We have been rescuing donated, surplus food,
which would otherwise have gone to waste, since 1985 and delivering it to community agencies across
Toronto. We currently partner with 225 agencies supporting 591 programs, providing enough food for 25,000
meals a day for hungry people in the city.
