Job Title:      Programs Coordinator

Location: Toronto, ON

The Programs Coordinator, under the direction of the Community Relations Manager, will be responsible for supporting Second Harvest’s 250+ partner agencies by resolving questions, concerns, and celebrating successes. This position will also provide training and education at the local level to ensure compliance of Second Harvest Agreements.

With a goal to drastically reduce the amount of food wasted while ensuring people have access to the good, healthy food they need for success, Second Harvest works across the supply chain from farmer to retail to capture surplus food before it ends up in the landfill and negatively impacts our environment.

Since 1985 we have rescued and delivered more than 127 million pounds of food and prevented over 70 million pounds of greenhouse gas equivalents from entering our atmosphere.  Currently, Second Harvest rescues food from over 470 donors and delivers that food to over 250 social service agencies in Toronto, providing enough food for 30,000 meals a day.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Support Second Harvest partner agencies by resolving questions and/or concerns
  • Uphold professionalism, tact, diplomacy, and sensitivity to portray Second Harvest in a positive manner when engaging with all stakeholders
  • Ensure all agency information is up-to-date in the database and all other Second Harvest records
  • Generate, summarize and analyze data for internal and external reports
  • Provide training and education to partner agencies on safe food handling, food waste prevention and basic nutrition
  • Participate in community tables and sit on committees where appropriate
  • Determine areas of improvement for individual food programs and provide additional training as needed
  • Identify and evaluate risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control any risks
  • Collect and maintain stories on Second Harvest recipient agencies and their clients
  • Keep up–to-date with changes within the food provision community and participate in group discussions on food security issues when possible
  • Support the development of educational materials and documentation for Second Harvest agencies
  • Perform regular site visits to Second Harvest partner agencies
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with community social service agencies
  • Outstanding capacity to work independently with exceptional time management skills
  • Solid computer literacy (Microsoft Office, web and/or mobile business application familiarity)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Proactive, positive, industrious, and socially conscientious
  • Ability to interact within diverse communities
  • Capacity to work flexible hours and travel throughout Toronto
  • Valid Class G driver’s license with daily access to a vehicle
