Second Harvest is expanding food rescue in Ontario through the use of new online technology. We require an outgoing and experienced individual to lead and support 3 coordinators in regional locations. The goal of all coordinators is to engage and onboard food donors and social service organizations in using to donate and rescue surplus food. This pilot project will expand the understanding and capability of safe food rescue to a wider audience and ensure good food does not go to waste.

Since 1985 we have rescued and delivered more than 127 million pounds of food and prevented over 70 million pounds of greenhouse gas equivalents from entering our atmosphere.  Currently, Second Harvest rescues food from over 470 donors and delivers that food to over 253 social service agencies in Toronto and food hubs across Ontario, providing enough food for 30,000 meals a day.

Key Responsibility:

Reporting to the Director of Programs and Partnerships, your primary roles will be to understand the technical functionality of the online application and support and expand across the province in partnership with regional coordinators and others in their sales process of securing food donors and not-for-profit/charitable organizations, coordinating activities, reporting and education on best practice use of

This role will require exceptional skills to:

  • Communicate with regional team, businesses, social service organizations, and stakeholders to provide understanding and generate acceptance for this new method of food rescue
  • Expand and Support the planning and coordination of provincial activities for this new program
  • Conduct training with regional coordinators to showcase technology and solicit input to improve our program
  • Provide ongoing system functionality support with regional hubs to support engagement of local food donors and not-for-profit organizations to further expand food rescue
  • Work collaboratively with Second Harvest staff to ensure effective and efficient program delivery
  • Collect and maintain accurate records of activities and generate reports, as requested
  • Identify and evaluate risks associated with program activities and take appropriate action to control any risks
  • Adhere to all Second Harvest internal policies and procedures

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Experience working with community social service agencies
  • Sales experience within the food industry
  • Outstanding ability to work independently with exceptional time management skills
  • Sound computer literacy (Microsoft Office, web and/or mobile business applications)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Aptitude for technology with willingness to patiently educate others on functionality
  • Capacity to work flexible hours and travel throughout Ontario
  • Capable of being away from home for a few days at a time, if requested
  • Valid Class G driver’s license with daily access to a well-maintained vehicle that can be used for long distance (mileage compensated
  • Proactive, positive, industrious, and socially conscientious
  • Ability to interact within diverse communities
