As part of the Dell team, Susan Duncan (pictured above) has been volunteering at Second Harvest regularly for the past few years. With a commitment to making a positive social and environmental impact, Dell’s corporate volunteer engagement goals align perfectly with Second Harvest’s vision and goals.
Last spring, Susan clicked on a link from our monthly e-newsletter inviting individuals to join the Second Harvest team for the 2016 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon. The opportunity piqued Susan’s interest as it was something she had never done before. “I walk regularly on my own, typically 5-10k, so I chose to do a half marathon because it was a great personal challenge,” she explains. She finished the half marathon within her goal and had a wonderful experience.
By joining the team, Susan took the opportunity to fundraise for Second Harvest, and after sending out a few emails, the support began to pour in. “I had some really great donors, and it just kind of fell in my lap,” she commented. Before she knew it, Susan became the top fundraiser for Second Harvest for the 2016 Marathon, raising $2,550 and winning a pair of 2017 Toronto Taste VIP tickets.
As a past Toronto Taste volunteer, the prize was extra special. “I was so excited because in previous years, I had volunteered at Toronto Taste leading up to the event but never had a chance to experience it. It was a lot of fun and I was really excited about it,” she shared.
Susan has signed up for the 2017 STWM and plans to fundraise again for Second Harvest, noting “it’s a great cause and something we all need to be more aware of. A lot of people don’t know enough about Second Harvest and I’m hoping to help share awareness about this amazing charity.”
Thank you for your commitment to Second Harvest, Susan!
