Environics Communications is one of Canada’s top communications service agencies. From the company’s inception in 1994, Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability initiatives have been at the forefront of everything that they do. As a team, they embrace the spirit of leadership and responsibility and create opportunities that not only strengthen employee engagement, but most importantly, give back to the community.
To support our annual Hero Workplace Fundraising Campaign, the team at Environics implements a variety of fun (and delicious!) activities to raise funds for Second Harvest. Here, they share with us the reasons fundraising is important and the type of activities they lead to bring everyone together for a great cause!
Why does the team at Environics fundraise and what made you decide to support Second Harvest?
At Environics, giving back and supporting our community has always been part of our corporate culture. Even when we were a small team of less than 20 employees we supported causes brought to us by our colleagues and clients. We are especially fond organizations like Second Harvest that allow us to drive employee engagement; enabling colleagues to collaborate with team members they might not have the opportunity to on a day-to-day basis is a bonus.
As a team, we truly believe in the value of supporting our local community, and we think it’s important to raise awareness that even in a wealthy, modernized place like Toronto, hunger is prevalent and prevents us as a city, from being our best. Plus, the idea of “food rescue” especially resonates with our team’s belief in reducing our impact on the environment and protecting our resources.
What type of fundraising activities do you do at Environics?
While different fundraising activities have been implemented over the last few years, our company-wide potlucks are always a hit among colleagues and have continually allowed for us to surpass internal fundraising goals, year over year. This initiative in particular brings colleagues together to break bread and remind us that thousands of people across our city are not as fortunate.
To complement the potluck and further drive fundraising initiatives, this past summer we offered colleagues the opportunity to purchase ice cream treats every Friday afternoon, with proceeds going to Second Harvest. Not only did this allow colleagues to cool down on those especially hot days, it also created additional momentum and visibility for the cause between our flagship potluck events. And, to ensure we had no food waste, we encouraged colleagues to sign-up and prepay for treats.
Thank you so much, Environics Communications, for all of your efforts to fight hunger in Toronto and for your continued support!
