Volunteers in this position help our drivers make pick-ups from our food donors by loading donated food onto the trucks, as well as deliver food to community agencies in Toronto.
Shifts: Monday-Friday: 7:45am to approximately 3:00pm Saturday 8:30am – 3:00pm Sunday 9:00am-3:00pm (All shifts start and end at Second Harvest.)
Requirements: Minimum of 16 years of age and must be able to lift a maximum of 30 lbs.
Turkey Drive – December 2017
Volunteers are stationed at Loblaws locations across Toronto to ask customers to purchase a turkey and donate it to Second Harvest. The turkeys will be distributed, through our agencies, to people in need during the holiday season. Tasks include promoting the event in store, helping customers pick out frozen turkeys, loading donated turkeys onto our Second Harvest trucks and dressing up as our turkey mascot!
This is a great way to give back during the holiday season!
Shifts: 9:30am-1:30pm or 1:00pm-5:00pm
Requirements: Volunteers under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the shift.

Hero Days – February, 2018
Every year, Second Harvest volunteers gather in various TTC and PATH locations across the city to support the Second Harvest Hero Campaign. Shifts are short and easy to complete before or after school, even during lunch! Volunteer tasks include spreading enthusiasm for food rescue, generating awareness about Second Harvest and collecting funds from commuters.
Impact? For every $5 raised, 10 healthy meals are provided to people experiencing hunger right here in our city.
Shifts: 7:00am – 9:15am, 11:30am – 1:30pm or 4:00pm – 6:30pm.
Requirements: Volunteers under the age of 15 must have an adult present during their shift.
Represent Second Harvest at events around the GTA by working the information table or helping with other general tasks, including silent auctions, ticket sales and collecting donations. Volunteers should be approachable, outgoing and comfortable promoting Second Harvest and food rescue awareness. Training is provided.
March Break, Summer & Winter Break
Volunteer at Second Harvest in any of the following areas during the school breaks. Please note that volunteers must be 16 years of age or older to volunteer on the truck or in the warehouse.
Warehouse Assistant: Help to sort and repackage food in preparation for delivery to agencies.
Driver Assistant: Help our drivers to pick up and deliver food donations to our partner agencies.
Event Preparation: Assist with preparing event materials, sorting and inventorying supplies.
Office Spring Cleaning: Help with filing, organizing supplies and general administrative duties.

During his time with Second Harvest, Ian demonstrated outstanding leadership, and commitment to community service. This award is presented annually to an outstanding young person, under the age of 21, who has demonstrated leadership and commitment to community service and supported the work of Second Harvest.
