December 14-15 2019
This December, over 430 amazing volunteers put on reindeer antlers and Santa hats, and braved the chill of the frozen meat department to promote Turkey Drive to generous shoppers. (Who rocked the turkey costume the best? Check out our Facebook album and let us know in the comments.)
From groups of families, coworkers, or friends, every volunteer helped make a difference. A special thank you goes to our 40 Leadership Volunteers for keeping our volunteers energetic and excited at the 11 participating stores. With their help, Second Harvest collected the most turkeys EVER in store!
Turkey Drive is an event that would not be possible without our presenting sponsor, Loblaws. This year, all online and in-store donations were matched by an incredible $25,000 gift from Loblaws. In addition, a total of 5,887 turkeys were donated in-store by generous customers! Thank you Loblaws for your continued support of Turkey Drive. You've helped thousands of Torontonians enjoy warm meals over the holiday season.
This year, Second Harvest received an overwhelming number of requests for turkeys. We are so thankful to the many organizations and businesses who donated turkeys to ensure that every request was fulfilled. From everyone at Second Harvest and the agencies we serve, thank you!
Whether you purchased a turkey at a Loblaws store, made a donation online, or volunteered your time, your support helped us deliver a grand total of 7,008 turkeys for happy holiday meals across Toronto.
“You take a load off and it helps my heart. Getting this turkey will make my family’s Christmas. Thank you Second Harvest and Bluffs Food Bank!” – Bluffs Food Bank Client
