St. Lawrence Market & Second Harvest: 31 Year of Partnership
The St. Lawrence Market and Second Harvest have a long history of partnership in food rescue. Second Harvest has been picking up food that would otherwise go to waste from vendors at the Market since our inception in 1985. Small volunteer team visit the Market each week, picking up small food donations and delivering them to two local partner agencies, Fred Victor Centre Women’s Hostel and Good Shepherd Centre Toronto.
Second Harvest currently has 8 regular pick up volunteers on our St. Lawrence Hunger Squad, some of whom have been volunteering for almost 15 years. The St. Lawrence Market Food Rescue Program is how our past Board Chair, Charlie Dougall, as well as our current Board Chair, Tracy Wynne, began volunteering with us.
Participating vendors include Brown Brothers Meat, Buster’s Sea Cove, Carousel Bakery, Di Liso’s Meats, Domenic’s Fish, Family Food Market, Future Bakery, Kozlik’s Mustard, La Boucherie, Olympic Cheese, St. Lawrence Pizza & Ice Cream, Stonemill Bakehouse, St. Lawrence Uppercut Meats, St. Urbain Bagel, Urban Fresh Produce and Whitehouse Meats.
