Volunteer at Toronto Taste 2019

Second Harvest is incredibly grateful for the volunteers who give their time and energy into making Toronto Taste a success. This event would not be possible without your hard work and dedication – and it’s also a lot of fun and a fabulous way to build your resumé, get large-scale event experience and meet new people. Plus you’ll play a vital part in supporting Second Harvest’s mission.

Volunteers must be 19+ years of age as of Sunday June 9, 2019 to participate in Toronto Taste at the Evergreen Brick Works.

VOLUNTEER POSITIONS

Bussers (3:30pm-10:00pm): Assist with clearing glassware and biodegradable plates, ensuring a clean tasting environment for our guests.   Restaurant/hospitality experience is preferred but not required.

Food Waste Management (3:30pm-10:00pm): Store used glassware and properly dispose of waste. Bussing experience is considered an asset.

Bussing Swing Shift (5:00pm-8:30pm):  Assist with clearing glassware and biodegradable plates, ensuring a clean tasting environment for our guests.   Restaurant/hospitality experience is preferred but not required.

Chef Check In (12:00pm – 5:00pm): Assist our chefs and beverage purveyors with unloading their supplies and delivering them to their stations.  Volunteers should be able to lift a maximum of 30lbs and be accustomed to physical labour.

Live Auction Spotter & Raffle Ticket Writer (6:30pm-10:30pm): Assist our guests with bidding on our Live Auction items and usher them to cash out when Auction is complete.  After Live Auction, assist the Raffle Team with writing raffle tickets. Volunteers should have excellent customer service skills and knowledge about Second Harvest.

Live Auction Spotter & Auction Cash Out (6:30pm-10:30pm): Assist our guests with bidding on our Live Auction items and usher them to cash out when Auction is complete.  After Live Auction, assist the Auction Cash Out team with processing payments from Silent and Wine Auctions.Volunteers should have excellent customer service skills and knowledge about Second Harvest.

Raffle Ticket Seller (3:00pm-9:00pm): Promote and sell raffle tickets among Toronto Taste guests.Volunteers should have sales experience and a friendly and outgoing personality.

Tear Down (9:30pm – 12:30am):  Assist with dismantling the event space, packing and loading materials onto our trucks. Volunteers must be able to commit to the entire shift, be able to lift a maximum of 30 lbs and be accustomed to physical labour.

Traffic Enforcement (9:30am – 2:30pm, 2:00pm – 7:30pm):  Assist with directing traffic for vendor drop-offs/pick-ups as well as direct guests, chefs and volunteers to appropriate parking lots.  Volunteers must be comfortable providing and enforcing instructions and standing outdoors for the duration of the shift.


Volunteer Check In (7:30am-1:30pm, 1:00pm-7:30pm, 7:00pm-12:00am): Assist with registering volunteers, equipping them with materials and directing them to their Team Leader. Volunteers should have excellent customer service and judgment and be accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment. POSITION FULL

Volunteer Room Support (12:00pm-4:30pm & 4:00pm-10:30pm):  Assist with serving lunch/dinner and maintain a clean eating space for volunteers.  Volunteers should be friendly, organized and outgoing. POSITION FULL

Silent Auction Attendant (3:45pm-10:30pm):  Assist guests with auction process, encourage bidding on items; answer any questions and assist with the closing auction procedures. Volunteers should have excellent sales and customer service skills, be friendly and outgoing. POSITION FULL

Auction Cash-Out (8:15pm-10:30pm): Assist with processing payments for our auction winners.  Volunteers must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with excellent customer service skills. Previous experience working with debit/credit machines would be an asset. POSITION FULL

Guest Entrance – VIP (3:45pm-8:00pm): Assist with greeting guests, scanning tickets, crowd control and covering General Admission Entrance shift breaks.  Volunteers must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have superior organizational skills and should have a pleasant demeanor.   POSITION FULL

Guest Entrance – General Admission (4:15pm-10:30pm): Assist with greeting guests, scanning tickets and crowd control.  This position will be partially outdoors. Volunteers must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, have superior organizational skills and should have a pleasant demeanor.  POSITION FULL

Info Table (10:00am-2:30pm & 2:00pm-7:00pm): Represent Second Harvest by answering questions to general public and provide vendors with information/direction upon arrival.  Volunteers should have excellent customer service skills and knowledge about Second Harvest. POSITION FULL

Chef Event Support (3:45pm-10:30pm): Support our chefs and beverage purveyors throughout the event by ensuring stations are efficiently stocked with supplies (water, ice, equipment replenishment). Volunteers should have excellent customer service skills, maintain a high level of professionalism and can multitask under pressure. POSITION FULL

Event Floater (10:00am – 4:00pm, 4:00pm-10:00pm): Assist in any area that is short of volunteer support.  Volunteers must be energetic, reliable and have a can-do attitude. POSITION FULL

Operations Crew (11:45am-4:00pm): Assist with loading, unloading and placement of event supplies, replenish ice and other materials and be on standby for cleanup. Volunteers should be able to lift a maximum of 30lbs and be accustomed to physical labour.  POSITION FULL

Set Up – Sunday June 9th: (7:00am-12:00pm, 11:00am – 4:00pm):  Assist with setting up our venue including, tables, linens, signage, hand-washing stations and other event set up duties as assigned.  Volunteers should be able to lift a maximum of 30lbs and be accustomed to physical labour.   POSITION FULL
