COVID-19 RESPONSE TO VOLUNTEERING AT SECOND HARVEST
Second Harvest has taken measures to ensure the health and safety of our employees, volunteers, guests and community partners. Due to COVID-19 and Public Health guidance about physical distancing, we have a limited number of in-person volunteer opportunities at this time. We are still accepting new volunteer applications which will allow you to stay informed on when more volunteer opportunities become available.
Virtual Administrative Support
Volunteers with office-related experience to support us day to day are needed as projects become available. We offer a variety of opportunities such as data entry, research, outreach and fundraising support. Interested applicants should be able to make a long term commitment (at least 3 months). Training is provided.
Shifts: Flexible scheduling, ideally Monday-Friday anytime between 9:00am – 5:00pm.
Requirements: Candidates who are tech-savvy and experienced with MS office are preferred.
Food Rescue Volunteer
We are in the process of launching a new volunteer position that will allow people across Canada to assist with transporting surplus food from food donors to community organizations. Rescues can be transported by foot, bike or vehicle. Stay tuned for more exciting details about our launch.
INACTIVE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Team Leader – on hold due to COVID-19
We are always looking for individuals that are comfortable leading a team of volunteers at our events, such as Turkey Drive, Hero Day and Toronto Taste. Team Leads are responsible for training volunteers on site, providing guidance throughout the shift and act as a liaison with Second Harvest staff. Previous volunteer experience and knowledge of Second Harvest is preferred. Training will be provided.
Driver Assistants – on hold due to COVID-19
Volunteers in this position help our drivers make pick-ups from our food donors by loading donated food onto the trucks, as well as deliver food to community agencies in Toronto.
Shifts: Monday-Friday 7:45am to approximately 3:00pm, Saturday: 8:30am – 3:00pm, Sunday 9:00am – 3:00pm (All shifts start and end at Second Harvest).
Requirements: Minimum of 16 years of age and must be able to lift a maximum of 30 lbs.
Commitment: 3 month placement with 2-3 shifts per month.
Represent Second Harvest in the community through public speaking and outreach initiatives, including volunteer fairs, trade shows, community events and more. Volunteers should have proven leadership skills, passion for food rescue and an outgoing personality. Training will be provided.

Volunteer Drivers – on hold due to COVID-19
Using your own vehicle and knowledge of the city, help Second Harvest to pick up donated items. Busy time of year for this role is February to May.
Requirements: Must own or have access to vehicle, a valid G class license and automobile insurance.
