National Volunteer Week 2020

We hope all of our volunteers are staying healthy and safe during this time.  As we reflect on all the contributions of our amazing volunteers, we invite you to learn more about Patricia Beckford and how she got involved with Second Harvest.

Volunteering has always been part of Patricia’s life.  She grew up in Jamaica with a Christian background and was always taught to volunteer and give back to her community.

According to Patricia, “Second Harvest is such a great organization.  I love that they rescue surplus food and give it to those who need it most in the community.”

Volunteering gives her a feeling of fulfillment that she finds it truly rewarding.  “It is such a privilege to volunteer with Second Harvest. I admire what they do and believe that they play such an important role in the community.  If I can play a small role to in helping too, that makes me happy.  I love connecting with the world around me and giving back.”

Patricia has been volunteering with Second Harvest since 2016.  She first discovered Second Harvest through our signature culinary fundraising event, Toronto Taste.  Patricia was initially interested in attending the event, but after learning more about the cause, she decided her time was better suited volunteering at the event, rather than attending as a guest.

A real people person, she finds it easy to volunteer at events.  She is certainly not shy about approaching people to talk to them about an organization that she admires.

Patricia is such a valuable part of our volunteer team and has contributed at many of our events, including California Wine Fair, Evening at the Market, Taste of the Middle East, and Food Fight.

Thank you to Patricia and all our amazing volunteers!  We genuinely could not do what we do without you!

HAPPY NATIONAL VOLUNTEER WEEK!
