FAQ

We understand that for returning campaigns, this year could continue to look very different compared to what you’re used to for workplace fundraising. We expect that for many companies, staff will work remotely for an extended period and that means fundraising will be done a little differently.

At Second Harvest, we’ll work with your team to ensure that your campaign, whether it’s in the office or virtual, will be successful. We’ve improved our online fundraising pages to make it easier to raise funds online.  And we have virtual giving opportunities, like our Hero Sweepstakes. We understand the pandemic has brought economic challenges that will impact the capacity of campaigns to contribute to our mission.  We want to remind you as always; every dollar truly makes a difference. Every dollar donated helps feed families in your community. No amount is too small to be impactful and is greatly appreciated.  Your support means the world to us, and any fundraising you can do during this difficult time makes you all the biggest heroes of all!

We are proceeding with planning the 2022 Second Harvest Hero Truck Pull as a corporate team challenge that will be open to public spectators, as it was in 2019.  The event is scheduled to take place on September 13, 2022, we’ll closely monitor public health guidance over the coming months to determine what necessary precautions and measures we’ll need to take to make sure everyone can participate safely.  Second Harvest will deliver an exciting and responsible event in 2022.
The Second Harvest Hero campaign runs year-round, from September 1st to August 31st, so you can hold your workplace campaign whenever it works best for your team.
Except for the Truck Pull Challenge, where teams must raise a minimum of $2,000 to participate, there is no fundraising minimum to take part in the campaign.
There’s no cost at all! There is no fee to register your campaign and all fundraising materials are free to order and have delivered to your home or workplace.
You can run your campaign for as long as you like!  Whether it’s a one-day event, or a campaign that is active for a week, month, or a year, Second Harvest truly appreciates your support.
Due to health concerns related to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this year we request that kit items are kept by your team for the following year's campaign.
The funds you raise directly support our food rescue operations. Your fundraising contribution helps us maintain our food rescue fleet, food rescue and donation web platform, warehouse, and all aspects of our food rescue operations. Your support will allow us to increase our capacity for rescuing more fresh, healthy food, so that more food can redistributed to our non-profit partners. And that means more meals for those in need in your community. Learn more about the impact of your donations and fundraising.
Please refer to our Preparing and Submitting Donations section for more information concerning tax receipts.
Previously, if your campaign raised at least $500, you would qualify to send one group of up to 10 team members to either a food sort or Feeding our Future shift. With COVID-19, we are re-evaluating our group volunteer opportunities and will have more information available later this year on how we can grant team-building opportunities to connect your campaign to our mission even more closely.
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, we’ll be limiting our in-person engagements with teams and participants, but your Second Harvest representative would be delighted to meet with your team and staff virtually to help coach your campaign, deliver a kick-off presentation, or conduct a wrap-up.
