Upcoming Opportunities

 

Turkey Drive

December 6-7 & 13-14, 2014

Teams of 10 volunteers are stationed at Loblaw locations across Toronto to ask customers to purchase a turkey and donate it to Second Harvest. The turkeys will be distributed, through our agencies, to people in need during the holiday season.  Tasks include handing out flyers, helping customers pick out frozen turkeys, loading donated turkeys onto our Second Harvest trucks and dressing up as our turkey mascot!

This is a great way for your employees to give back during the holiday season!

Shift: Saturdays & Sundays 9:00am-1:30pm or 1:30pm-6:00pm

Where: Approximately 10-12 Loblaws locations - tbd

 

St. Lawrence Market Drivers

Volunteer drivers are needed to help collect food from the market vendors and deliver to two neighbouring agencies.  Volunteers can expect to commit to 1-2 Saturdays per month and use their own vehicles.  Training & a buddy ride will be provided.

Shift: approximately 3:30pm-5:30pm

Where: St. Lawrence Market - 92 Front St E, Toronto, ON M5E 1C3

 

Food Collection Crew - Evergreen Brickworks

Volunteers are needed to help collect food from the farmers market vendors and create awareness around Second Harvest food rescue.  Volunteers can expect to commit to 1-2 Saturdays per month from July-November.  Training will be provided.

Shift: 11:00am-2:30pm

Where: Evergreen Brickworks - 550 Bayview Ave, Toronto, ON, Canada M4W 3X8

Office Assistants

We are always looking for volunteers with office-related experience to support us day to day.  We offer a variety of opportunities such as data entry, research, outreach and event administration.  Interested applicants should be able to make a long term commitment (at least 6 months). Training is provided.

Resume and volunteer application submission is required.

Commitment: 7 to 21 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00-5:00 p.m.), flexible

 

Communications Assistants

We are seeking a Communications Assistant to support the Communications department in delivering Second Harvest’s message to a range of audiences.

We're looking for strong writers and/ or strong graphic design skills .

Commitment: 7 to 21 hours per week (Monday to Friday, 9:00-5:00 p.m.), flexible

Driver's Assistants

Volunteers in this position help our drivers make pick-ups from our food donors by loading donated food onto the trucks, as well as deliver food to community agencies in Toronto.

Shifts: Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to approximately 3:30 p.m. (All shifts start and end at Second Harvest.)

Requirements: Minimum of 16 years of age and must be able to lift a minimum of 30 lbs.

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of a 3-month placement with 2-3 shifts per month.

 

Warehouse Assistants

Warehouse assistants help to sort and pack donated food into boxes, helping to get it ready to go out to our agencies. Volunteers also help to sweep and clean the warehouse.

Shifts: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Requirements: Minimum of 16 years of age and must be able to lift up to 30 lbs.

Where: Second Harvest, 1450 Lodestar Rd., Toronto

Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 1 shift per week.
