Represent Second Harvest at events around the GTA by working the information table or helping with other general tasks, including silent auctions, ticket sales and collecting donations. Volunteers should be approachable, outgoing and comfortable promoting Second Harvest and food rescue awareness. Training is provided.
Spend a weekday during the summer to help make hundreds of delicious and lunches for children attending city camps. Second Harvest delivers to about a dozen community centres in Toronto thus ensuring children who get subsidized lunches during the school year will also be receiving at least one nutritious meal a day during the summer. Groups of 10 volunteers are needed per shift.
Shift: Monday 7:00am – 9:30am
Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older.
Location: Kitchen 24 – 100 Marmora St #200, North York, ON M9M 2X5
Assist in sorting, packaging and loading surplus food at large events like trade shows and expos so it can be transported back to our warehouse for redistribution. Events occur throughout the year on an as-needed basis.
Volunteers are stationed at Loblaws locations across Toronto to ask customers to purchase a turkey and donate it to Second Harvest. The turkeys will be distributed, through our agencies, to people in need during the holiday season. Tasks include promoting the event in store, helping customers pick out frozen turkeys, loading donated turkeys onto our Second Harvest trucks and dressing up as our turkey mascot! This is a great way to give back during the holiday season!
Shifts: 9:30am-1:30pm or 1:00pm-5:00pm
Requirement: Volunteers under 15 years of age must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the shift.
Every year, teams of Second Harvest volunteers gather in TTC stations & PATH locations to raise funds and awareness for Second Harvest. It’s a great teambuilding opportunity, and shifts are short and easy to complete before or after work, even during lunch!
